SOLD Pronklappen uit Nederlanse en Belgische meisjesscholen * £20 €30 $90 (New Zealand and Australia $95) Shipping Included

Sampler Rolls from Belgian and Dutch Girls' Schools is another Dutch language book by Hennie and Sjoerd Stevan of the Muesum for Needleart in Wedde, North Netherlands. It is hardback, jacketed and has over 220 pages.
While it was the custom for girls' stitching in the UK and elsewhere to be attached within exercise books, in Belgium and the Netherlands their work was stitched into a long scroll. These long sampler rolls - sometimes extraordinarily long indeed - contain all the pieces worked by a girl throughout her school life and for that reason are sometimes called Souvenirs de Ma Jeunesse.
The rolls demonstrated a girl's knowledge of many stitching techniques, plain sewing and embroidery, as well as knitting, crochet and other linen embellishments.
The schools were usually faith schools and it was not unknown for girls from the UK to attend these institutions which were frequently very large and offered accommodation to long-time boarders.
Here you can see some of the excerpts from the rolls
This is the only documented history I know of about these very special pronklappen.
