Meg Andrew's Coif

While you were looking at the family of Dutch samplers the other night, you might have come across Meg's coif - if you didn't here it is.

The fine linen ground is covered with coiling goldwork tendrils worked in plaited stitch containing three flowerheads, the calyx in raised goldwork in a basket weave stitch, the flowers in black silks in cross stitch, the coif's edges applied with gold plaited bobbin lace attached with hand cut spangles. The top has a turned-in seam, partly open, the rest with simple stitches. The base has original linen ties or strings and there is linen lining to most of the inside. It measures 8 in or 20 cm down.
