Late 17th Century Embroidered Hand Held Mirror Sells for Just Shy of £3,000 at Bonhams

Yesterday at Bonham's, Knowle, Lot 364, a late 17th century needlework handheld mirror of oval form, one side depicting James II with a crown, orb and sceptre sold for £2,875 inclusive of buyer's premium
James II is surrounded by a border inscribed 'Dieu et Mon Droit, Jacobus Secundus'. It is worked in satin stitch, detached buttonhole stitch, couched threads, purled wire and spangles on satin, the reverse enclosing a mirror, within a glass case. It measures just 8cm x 9.5cm (approximately 3" x 4").
